For Healthcare Professionals
NORMA is designed to support your patients between appointments, reducing unnecessary presentations and helping them arrive at consultations better prepared.
What is NORMA?
NORMA is a patient-support wellness app that provides personalised reassurance and escalation guidance between clinical appointments, based on the patient’s known medical context.
Think of it as a carefully bounded “is this normal?” tool that operates within the medical context your patient already has, not outside it.
NORMA explicitly does NOT:
- Diagnose conditions
- Recommend medications or treatment changes
- Override or contradict clinical advice
- Generate novel medical opinions
- Encourage delay when care is needed
NORMA is designed for use:
After a diagnosis has been made
After medication has been prescribed
During recovery from a procedure or surgery
Tracking symptoms between scheduled follow-up appointments
When a Patient Brings NORMA Data to You
NORMA is designed to make your patients better prepared for consultations. Here’s what to expect when a patient uses NORMA:
Symptom History
Patients can show you a chronological record of symptoms they’ve logged, including severity, timing, and context. This can significantly improve history-taking efficiency.
Cycle Data
For female patients, NORMA tracks cycle length, flow, and associated symptoms over multiple months — providing pattern data that can assist gynaecological or general practice consultations.
Medication & Condition Context
NORMA’s responses are informed by the patient’s stated medications and diagnoses. Patients can show you what health context they’ve entered, giving you insight into how they’re self-managing.
Informed Questions
NORMA helps patients identify what to ask at their next appointment. Patients may arrive with more specific, relevant questions — reflecting insights generated by NORMA based on their tracked data.
Where Does NORMA Get Its Information?
NORMA draws on Australian health information sources and evidence-based clinical guidelines to inform its responses. It is designed to:
Use authoritative healthcare sources only
NORMA does not generate novel medical opinions. All guidance is based on established clinical guidelines and accepted standards of care.
Clearly distinguish reassurance from escalation
Responses are framed as either “this appears expected” or “this warrants professional review” — never as diagnostic conclusions.
Make uncertainty explicit
Where guidance varies or confidence is low, NORMA flags this clearly rather than providing false certainty.
Default to conservative escalation
When in doubt, NORMA recommends professional review rather than continued self-management. Patient safety always takes precedence.
What We Ask of Healthcare Providers
Very deliberately, not much. Providers are not expected to enter data, monitor usage, or respond to NORMA outputs.
Optional: Recommend NORMA
If appropriate, simply suggest NORMA as a “reassurance tool” for between-appointment self-management.
Optional: Context Card
A brief note to the patient about their diagnosis and recovery expectations can significantly improve NORMA’s relevance to them.
Your advice always supersedes
NORMA is explicitly designed to support, not contradict, clinical advice. The clinician’s guidance always takes precedence.
